Terms and Conditions for renting a boat – Lofoten Boat

  1. Rental period, handover, and return

    • Location and time: The boat must be collected and returned at the same location at the agreed time. In the event of delays, both parties are obliged to notify the other and wait for 30 minutes.
    • Weather conditions: If weather conditions make handover or return unsafe, the lessor or lessee must be notified at least one hour in advance, and a new time must be agreed upon.
    • No-show and fees: If the lessee fails to show up, the rental continues as normal. In the event of a failure to return the boat, the rental period continues to run, and the lessee must cover all additional expenses and losses incurred by the lessor.

  1. Price and payment

    • Additional costs: Optional extras, additional equipment, and services are charged in addition to the agreed rental price.
    • Adjustments for delays: If the handover is postponed due to weather conditions or circumstances on the boat owner's part, the rental period shall be extended, or the rental price reduced proportionally.

  1. Boat condition and defects

    • Handover: The boat must be clean, fully fueled, and in the condition specified in the contract. The condition is verified jointly using a checklist. In the event of significant defects or major delays on the part of the lessor, the lessee may claim a price reduction or terminate the agreement.
    • Return: The boat and equipment must be returned clean and with a full fuel tank. Otherwise, the lessee will be charged fees for cleaning (NOK 1,000) and refueling (pump price + NOK 500 service fee).

  1. Lessee liability and requirements

    • Qualifications: The operator(s) must be at least 20 years of age. Persons born after December 31, 1979, must present a valid boat operator’s certificate. Providing false information may result in the immediate termination of the agreement.
    • Damage and insurance: The renter is financially liable for any damage, theft, or loss occurring during the rental period, as well as the lessor’s insurance deductible in the event of an insurance claim. Issues must be reported to the lessor immediately.
    • Use and maintenance: The boat must not be used for water sports (e.g., water skiing, paragliding, etc.). The boat operator must at all times comply with applicable laws and regulations regarding maritime traffic. Note: The inner harbor has a speed limit of 5 knots. The boat must be moored and locked after dark.

  1. Cancellation, changes, and disputes

    • Cancellation fee: Free cancellation up to 7 days prior to the scheduled pickup time. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the pickup time are non-refundable.
    • Changes: All changes to the agreement must be made in writing.
    • Disputes: Any disagreements shall be attempted to be resolved amicably. Failing this, the Salten and Lofoten District Court shall have jurisdiction.
